The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
Chapter One

"Tell me... Do you ever feel a strange sadness as dusk falls?"
"..."
The man who's name was Rusl continued, "They say it's the only time when our world intersects with theirs..." He sighed and rubbed through his shaggy hair. "...The only time we can feel the lingering regrets of the spirits who have left our world. That is why loneliness always pervades the hour of twilight."
The seventeen year old boy next to him stared at the beautiful setting sun.  The Sunset was truly amazing. The young man closed his eyes and listened to the sound of the waterfall that falls into the Faron Spring.
"But enough talk of sadness. I have a favor to ask of you, Link."
Rusl turned to face the boy with the dirty blonde hair. Link glanced at him with his ocean blue eyes.
Rusl continued, "I was supposed to deliver something to the royal family of Hyrule the day after tomorrow... Yes, it was a task set to me by the mayor, but would you go in my stead? I am... getting older."
The two laughed, and when they settled, Link said, "I would be happy to go in your place. It would be nice to explore outside this forest."
Rusl leaned back, and looked at Link with eyes of sorrow, "You have... never been to Hyrule, right?"
Link slowly shook his head and looked down, "I've never been outside of Faron Woods, but can you tell me about it?"
Rusl rubbed his chin in thought, " Well, In the Kingdom of Hyrule there is a great castle, and around it is Castle Town, a community far bigger than our little village... and far bigger than Hyrule is the rest of the world the gods created. You should look upon all of It with your own eyes."
"Yeah..." Link murmured quietly.
Rusl grunted as he got to his feet. "It's getting late... We should head back to the village. I will talk to the mayor about this matter." Link nodded in agreement and got to his feet and followed behind Rusl. He grabbed his horse's reins, Epona, and they both started  to head back to their home Village. They stopped at bridge leading to Faron Woods, and locked the gate with a bundle of vines.
After locking the gate, they both proceeded past the Ordon spring and into the village area. When they reached Link's house, Rusl waved to Link with a goodbye, and started to walk back to the village. Rusl walked up to his son Colin, and his pregnant wife Uli. He patted Colin on the head, and they walked back to their house. Colin glanced quickly at Link with a smile. Link grinned back at him.
Meanwhile, it was sunset, and Link was inside finishing up his chores, when soft footsteps made their way towards Epona. The person grabbed the reins,  and led the horse into the forest. Right when the person turned the corner. The owner of Ordon ranch came running up to Link's house and yelled, "Hey! Link! You there?"
Link dropped his broom and walked over to the window to see Fado standing next to the ladder.
"Hey Fado. What is it?"
"Hey, you mind helpin' me herd the goats? They ain't listenin' to me lately!"
"Sure, hold on a second."
Fado sighed in relief, but then gasped when he did not see a horse tied to the rail.
"Hey, where's Epona?" he mumbled.

Link jumped down the ladder that lead to the window and he grabbed the mop and broom with one hand, and tossed them into the basement.
He winced when he heard a crash, and he said, "I'll get that later..."
Link pulled on his sandals and opened the door.
"Hey, sorry about the wait. Are you ready?"
Fado shook his head, "No, look! Epona's missing! You need to find her and bring her back so you can herd the goats."

"Oh really now... I guess I should start with the forest, then." Link turned to his left and walked through the opening to the woods. He passed a bunch of trees, and kicked rocks as he walked. He glanced into the Ordon spring, and smiled. He walked forward slowly.
"Illia."
A girl was walking towards Epona with her hand outstretched. She turned when she heard Link's voice. "Oh, hi,Link."
Link couldn't help but smile when he saw her. They had been friends since they were kids, and Link liked her. She had short light brown hair with pretty light green eyes. She was wearing a white shirt with incomplete sleeves, and brown and patched pants. Illia glanced at Epona, then back at Link, "I washed Epona for you!"
Link grinned and they both laughed he walked over to her, and touched Epona's soft nose. "You did a good job, then."
. "Epona is a girl too, so you have to treat her like a nice one!"-
Link nodded and said, "Well, I better get off to herd the goats."
Illia put her hand on my shoulder, "Oh, but listen, Link. Could you do something for me?"
"Sure What do ya need?"
She folded her hands and replied, "Can you use a piece of grass to play that song for me? You know, the one that Epona likes?"
Link nodded and turned to see a patch of the horse call grass. He picked and piece and blew into it to play the song that Link called Epona's song. Whenever Link plays it, Epona comes to him. And Sure enough, Epona came dashed over from Illia to him.
"It's such a nice melody... Epona looks happy. Well, she's all prettied up now, so I suppose you can ride her back. But don't make her do much, OK?"
Link nodded and mounted Epona. While he was riding her out, he turned his back and waved to Illia , "See ya in the morning!"
She smiled and waved.
Link turned back and headed back south to his house to talk to Fado. He noticed he wasn't there, so he figured Fado must be waiting for him at the Ranch. Link rode Epona through the gates and into the main part of the Village.
When Link entered the quiet and peaceful village, he grinned when he saw one of the families sanding outside.
He rode over to them, and climbed off Epona. He faced the lady, who's name was Sera, who owned a general goods store.
"Ah, if it isn't young Link. Are you going to close down the ranch for the day?"
Link nodded and rubbed through Epona's mane, "Yeah, just gonna herd the goats and get everything wrapped up."
"I just closed the shop, myself."
"Next time you need help, just tell me and I'll help you close up."
She patted her daughter's head, Beth, and said, "Oh no, I could never ask you to do such a thing! You are a very sweet young man, Link. It's just, I'm sure you know all about the mischievous monkeys that've been coming into the village lately... Those things worry me a bit."
Link raised his eyebrows.
"I'd better lock up tight here... I couldn't stand to get any more goods stolen... Can't trust that good for nothing husband to do anything right..."
Suddenly, Beth turned to her father. Beth was a cute little girl, with brown short hair and freckles. "C'mon, Dad! You can't catch a silly little monkey?"
A worried expression came across his face, "Uhh... Well... No. No, I can't."
Link grinned widely and tried to hold back laughter. Sera frowned at her family, then smiled at Link, "Oh... Listen to us babble on, I didn't mean to keep you."
Link shook his head and climbed onto Epona, "No, It's fine. I like your family's company ,Sera. Have a good nights sleep tonight."
She smiled, "And to you, too. All right, off to work with you!"
Lin waved and Epona began to walk steadily forward in the direction of the Ranch. A voice made him stop, "Oh, Link." It was the mayor, Bo. He was Illia's father, and he had a big white shirt on and patched pants. Mayor Bo wasn't the tiniest mayor around, though.
"Evening mayor Bo. How has your day been?"
He smiled and said, "Good, Good. Looks like you're goin' to help Fado. Good job."
"Yeah, do ya know where he is?"
The mayor patted Epona's head softly, "He headed up to the ranch ahead of you. You go finish your chores before the sun goes down. See ya in the morning!"
"You too."
Then Link proceeded through the gates and into Ordon Ranch. The first thing he saw was a group of goats chewing the grass. Fado waved at Link and shouted, "Sorry to get you over here in such a hurry, Link! These guys have been awful skittish lately. They won't listen to a word I say. Sorry to ask, bud, but how's about you an' Epona herd em' into the barn real quick? We ain't much time until dark, so you think you can do it for me?"
"Sure thing, Fado. Epona and I could use a little work once in a while, don't we girl?"
Epona neighed in response, and Link patted her head. Fado sighed in relief , "Much obliged there, bud OK, then , go on an' herd all these little scamps into barn for me!"
Link nodded and began to herd the goats into the barn. It was simple to him, really. For practically growing up on a farm all of his life, Link knew that all you had to do was keep them in groups and lead them into the stables. After a few minutes of work, Link walked towards Fado, holding Epona's reins.
"Link, Epona... Much obliged to both of y'all! "
Link walked into the stable with Fado behind him, and grabbed a bag of Goat feed. He poured it into the buckets, "It was nothing Fado, really, I WORK here." Link said laughing. Fado smiled, "So do I. You know what, I can cover everythin' tomorrow without havin' to trouble you, so just sit back an' relax , bud."
Link turned to Fado and said, "You would do that?"
"Yep. You've done enough work. Take tomorrow off." link shook Fado's hand, and Fado said , "Oh... but, uh, how 'bout today? Wanna prctice with the fences?"
Link glanced at the sun and replied, "Yeah, I still got some time. Sure."
"Just wait a spell, bud. I'll get them fences set up."
Then Fado jogged into the barn to set up the fences. Link began to brush through Epona's fur, when Fado replied, "Hoo, sorry that took so long! OK, then! Y'all ride all you want! Y'all get tired of ridin', just jump the gate an' head back into the village, OK, bud?"
"Yep. Thanks Fado! Good night."
He waved as he gathered his belongings and headed back towards the village.
"Alright Epona," Link whispered, "Let's do this."
Link made a clicking sound, and Epona sprung into action. She went as fast as she could, as hard as she could. She jumped the fences better than she ever did before.
